From the places I looked at within proximity to Auckland, the Kawau Lodge package offered the most by a complete get away ie: needing to go on a boat to get there. The boat was a great way to start the weekend. Accommodation was lovely as was the food. Dave and Helen were very nice, have travelled widely and are interesting people in their own rights. Also due to my son having an ear ache and so not going to Kindy, I decided to take a drive and drop Mum and Dad at the boat, and Daniel was allowed to get on the boat and look around - very exciting for a four year old. Given the type of place it is, it was also nice that there was no discussion about money, it was good to know that it was all covered. Everything from the Airport to Tranz Scenic Rail transfers to the accommodation and the activities were all very precise and perfectly timed with clear instructions and plenty of information of all the places we visited. We were the only ones there so got offered the luxury suite for same $ which of cause we did. The African collection, the antiques and the art I loved, the view was breathtaking. The owner was not there but Carl was the perfect host. Well worth it pity it is to be sold - for me it was the decor and bits and pieces that made it, guess males may have different perspective.
